519 Church Begins

Rev. Owen Barrow and a group of 150 pioneers from Apex UMC had prepared all year for this–Launch Sunday!

The planning, prayer, preparation and practice paid off as the new Apex campus in the West Cary/Carpenter area began on Oct. 14. More than 630 persons attended the two Sunday morning services. Lots of smiles, enthusiasm, humor and a warm welcoming “High 5-1-9″ marked the occasion. Inaugural services included spirited worship and an equally-inspiring sermon. Both 9:30 and 11:00 services concluded with Holy Communion. Following the Benediction and plenty of fellowship time in the Lobby (i.e., the Carpenter Elem Schl cafeteria), the machine that is the 519 team had it all taken down, packed away, cleaned up and cleared out by 1:00…until next Sunday morning. Surveying the site of 519′s birthday, Rev. Barrow reflected with these profound words, “I need a nap!”

Please pray for 519 and follow their progress as a Ten Dollar Club church on their website: http://www.519church.org

(519′s mission field, the 27519 zip code, is the most unchurched area in the NC Conference.)

Support Groups

Meet twice a week

During support group, all youth will ‘check-in’ by saying their name, rating how their week is going, and naming at least three emotions they have felt over the past week. Support group provides a safe environment where youth can give and receive support surrounding important issues in their life. Participation is voluntary, but usually attendance at support group indicates a willingness to be actively involved in the discussion.

Youth learn that they are not alone in dealing with any issue. There is always someone who can relate to what is going on in another group member’s life. Teens learn how to support someone else in need. They come to realize that they are lovable, capable and worthwhile

Going Deeper

This program was set up to meet the developing spiritual and personal skills that youth need to be successful in life. Games, skits, movie clips and teachings.

One-on-One

One-on-Ones are meetings between youth to build a relationship that would not be possible in a group setting. Youth tend to be more comfortable sharing some issues when they have the individual attention. One-on-Ones often occur at a fast food restaurant, a sporting event, a park, or any place the youth and mentor agree upon.

Echo’s Mini-Triathlon a Resounding Success!

With scores of participants and hundreds of spectators, it’s clear that Echo Church of Morrisville made a real impact on the community over Labor Day weekend. The event served to establish a presence in the community, initiate some meaningful relationships and pique interest for potential core group members. It took Gold, Silver and Bronze on all three accounts! Way to go Pastor Jay Helms, wife Carla, and triathlon volunteers for making this event well-organized and remarkably implemented.

David Helms runs for the gold!

For more info on Echo, check out Jay’s Facebook page or new blog called Echo1249.
